Being seen on Creative Nowhere Land
When Matt Wilson asked me to come on Creative Nowhere Land, I already had a feeling it would be a good one. I’d listened to a few of his episodes and liked the way he gets people talking. Nothing surface level, just proper conversations about what makes us create.
He came over to the YST studio one afternoon. Paintings behind me, books on the table, the usual controlled chaos that somehow makes sense in my world. We sat down, hit record, and talked for hours. It honestly didn’t feel like recording a podcast. It felt like two creatives comparing notes on life, work, and the things we don’t always say out loud.
Matt had read Paint Lingers beforehand, which surprised me in the best way. He picked up lines I’d written at stupid o’clock in voice notes, the ones I never expect anyone to actually notice. That set the tone. The conversation went deeper than I thought it would. Not heavy, just real. We covered the work, of course, but also the parts of my story that sit underneath it. The stuff that drives everything.
It’s a long episode, I’ll warn you now. But if you’ve ever wondered where my work actually comes from, or why I paint the way I do, this is probably the most open I’ve ever been on record.
There’s laughter, honesty, a few unexpected moments, and a lot of backstory I’ve never really shared anywhere else.
