Opening the Studio

This year I'll be opening my studio as part of Birmingham Open Studios, and I'd love you to come along.

It's the first time I've been able to do it. Until recently the space has been home to You Say Tomato, the design agency I run with the team. Over the last year we've gradually brought my painting practice into the studio too, and it's become a place where design and painting sit comfortably alongside one another. I honestly think it's made it an even more creative place to work.

The studio won't be transformed into a gallery. It'll still be exactly what it is, a working studio. Whiteboards, sketches, paint, canvases and all. I think that's the interesting part. You'll get to see where the paintings happen.

I'll have a painting on the go over both weekends, alongside a selection of recent work, limited edition copies of Paint Lingers, exhibition catalogues, prints and a few other bits and pieces. The main reason for opening the doors though is simply to share the space and show you what goes on behind the scenes.

I'm based on the second floor of the Custard Factory, so there'll be volunteers downstairs on Gibb Street to welcome visitors and bring you up to the studio.

If you're already exploring Birmingham Open Studios, or just fancy popping in for a chat, it'd be lovely to see you.
