Paint Lingers – a new monograph

Over the past few years, I’ve found myself wading through different bodies of work - The Wonder Series, The Space Between Us, and the ongoing Impromptu paintings. Each series has opened a different door, but together they tell a bigger story of what it has meant for me to return fully to painting.
I wanted to find a way of holding all of this together, almost like creating a time capsule. Somewhere the work could live side by side, and somewhere I could open it up and reflect on what it has all meant. Making this book has felt like a milestone - a way of recognising the last two years of painting as an achievement in their own right.
The idea for Paint Lingers began when a critic once said to me that “the work lingers.” That phrase stayed with me. Paint has its own way of lingering - on the surface, in memory, and in the act of looking. It became the seed of this monograph, a title that holds both the physical presence of paint and the way these works stay with me, and hopefully with others.
The book itself is structured simply: an opening statement, the works themselves, and a series of reflections at the back called Notes from the Studio. These notes look back at the three bodies of work that shaped the last two years - The Wonder Series, The Space Between Us, and the Impromptu paintings. In total, there are nineteen works included, which still surprises me when I think how recent this chapter has been. And even then, it’s not everything.
This book is my way of pausing for a moment, gathering the threads, and housing them in one place. It’s not the end of the story - but it does feel like a marker of how far the work has come, and how much more there still is to explore.
